Academic grant furthers the vision of a more equitable healthcare system by recognizing emerging leaders.

EMERYVILLE, CA (July 21, 2022) — Vituity, the nation’s largest physician-owned partnership and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), are proud to announce the 2022 recipients of the Vituity & ACEP Diversity Leadership Scholarship, Jordan Vaughn, MD, and William Mundo, MD.

“Vituity is passionate about making care more equitable and accessible to all patients, and a big part of that starts with fostering a more diverse clinical workforce,” says Maureen Bell, MD, Vituity’s Physician Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusions (DEI). “We are extremely proud of Dr. Vaughn and Dr. Mundo and commend their many accomplishments. They each have a long and promising medical career and will serve their communities well”.

Dr. Vaughn was recognized for her volunteer work as an EM resident with patients in marginalized communities and her mentoring of women and persons of color.

Dr. Mundo was selected due to his outstanding leadership and tireless efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in his final years of medical school, which have directly led to care advancements for marginalized and vulnerable patients.

“Emergency medicine is stronger because of the efforts of these two emerging leaders,” said Gillian Schmitz, MD, FACEP, president of ACEP. “Emergency physicians pledge to treat anyone, anytime. Drs. Vaughn and Mundo are deserving honorees that are truly living the values of our specialty while improving care for the patients in their communities.”

Nominations for the Vituity and ACEP Diversity Leadership Scholarship are submitted on behalf of emergency physician residents or emergency medicine-bound medical students by a mentor, peer, or supervisor (not family-related) of the student or resident candidate. The $10,000 award for academic funding furthers the vision of a more equitable health system by recognizing emerging leaders who are passionate about leadership and healthcare transformation.
