EMERYVILLE, CA (April 19, 2021)—Vituity CEO Imamu “Mu” Tomlinson, MD, MBA, has been selected as one of Fierce Healthcare’s Most Influential Minority Executives for 2021. This national award honors innovative leaders of color who are making a measurable impact on healthcare and inspiring others to do the same.
As Vituity’s CEO, Dr. Tomlinson is leading a paradigm shift that extends care beyond the hospital walls and into the communities that need it most. He believes that to end health disparities, health systems must find ways to deliver care on patients’ terms—regardless of physical location, time of day, or clinical acuity. This care transformation will require massive cultural shifts within the healthcare industry to meet patients where they are. Health systems will also benefit from community partnerships to help them build community trust and reach patients close to home and work.
To create a vehicle for community partnerships, Dr. Tomlinson founded the Vituity Cares Foundation in 2020 and serves as its president. In addition to improving healthcare access, the foundation also works to address the social determinants of health and nurture tomorrow’s diverse clinicians and healthcare leaders in the communities Vituity serves. “Dr. Tomlinson’s approach to care is improving patients’ lives while creating a sustainable future for Vituity,” says David Feldman, MD, MBA, chair of the Vituity board of directors. “One of our strongest organizational values is that what’s best for patients also benefits hospitals and clinicians. Dr. Tomlinson empowers front-line clinicians to lead the development of more sustainable, compassionate, and patient-centered care delivery models. And he inspires others to join him on this journey.”
