Boise, Idaho (pop. 215,000), also known as "The Treasure City", is consistently ranked among America's most livable metropolises. Active types will thrill to the proximity of paddle sports, fly fishing, cycling trails, and ski slopes. Sports fans can catch minor league hockey and basketball action or head to Boise State University for a full range of college matchups. Boise is home to a thriving local music scene, which is showcased each year by the Treefort Music Festival. The Idaho Ballet, Boise Philharmonic, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, and the Trey McIntyre Project provide a healthy dose of high culture.
Founded in 1894 as Boise's first hospital, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center (SARMC) has long been regarded as a pioneer. Emergency care is provided by a dedicated team of board-certified emergency physicians and certified emergency nurses. The ED's Level 2 trauma center links residents of southwest Idaho, eastern Oregon, and northern Nevada with life saving services. The department is also home to a senior ED, which takes a multidisciplinary team approach to the management of older patients. SARMC also operates a freestanding ED at Saint Alphonsus Eagle Health Plaza.
