Advanced Training for a Career in Urgent Care Medicine

Our one-year Urgent Care Fellowship provides training and support for family and internal medicine physicians to confidently practice in urgent care settings. You’ll gain the knowledge and procedural skills necessary for the growing urgent care practice, with an emphasis on orthopedics, radiology, trauma care, occupational medicine, and adult and pediatric emergencies.

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center is a large community hospital east of downtown Los Angeles in Pomona, CA. It is considered one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals and offers a full range of services from local primary acute care to highly specialized regional services. Pomona has a hospital-affiliated urgent care network and runs a family medicine residency program. The hospital is recognized as an LA County-designated STEMI Center, Stroke Center, and Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP).

Pomona is located just 45 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, close to the Claremont Colleges. It provides easy access to the beaches along the Pacific Coast, the mountains, Palm Springs, and all of Southern California.

Curriculum

The urgent care fellowship is designed to introduce fellows to the widest range of patient symptoms and conditions through clinical rotations, didactic methods, and research. The program includes:

Onsite rotations in orthopedic, ENT, radiology, ED, and urgent care
Offsite rotations in dermatology, opthalmology, and dental
Practice management
CME conferences
Training in suture, ultrasound, pain management, ACLS, PALS, and splinting/casting
Evaluations on chart review, case reports, procedure logs, rotations, and observation/precepting
A research project
