Premier Regional Physicians in Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine Join Nation’s Largest Physician‐Owned Partnership, Delivering Integrated Patient Care to Dignity Health and Other Hospital Systems

September 12, 2017 – EMERYVILLE, CA – Vituity, one of the nation’s largest physician‐owned partnerships, further expanded its anesthesia practice line when the physicians of Sacramento Anesthesia Medical Group (SAMG), a regional leader in anesthesia and perioperative medicine, joined the Partnership on August 1. Hospitals, like Dignity Health Mercy General Hospital located in East Sacramento, will benefit from the ongoing patient care, leadership and services of a local physician group while now having access to resources, innovations and best practices developed by Vituity physician partners nationwide.

“As a patient-centric, independent, physician-owned organization, Vituity is dedicated to making a difference for our patients, for our hospitals and for the communities we serve,” said Dr. Michael Paige, Vituity Director of Practice Development and Anesthesia Medical Director at O’Connor Hospital, San Jose, CA. “We are pleased to welcome the physicians of Sacramento Anesthesia Medical Group with their longstanding legacy in physician leadership and best-in-class patient care into the Vituity partnership.”

SAMG anesthesiologists have become partners in Vituity’s unique partnership model with a defined track that includes ownership, democratic participation and surplus distribution, all while gaining access to a national network of over 3,000 clinicians focused on delivering innovative care solutions. Vituity's collective expertise allows the organization to address the nation’s stringent quality initiatives and increasing payment complexities while, importantly, retaining the autonomy engagement and independence vital to a local physician practice.

"Joining Vituity was an important decision made easier by an immediate sense of culture fit. As partners in a national organization, we are provided with the opportunity to tap into a large knowledge base where we can apply solutions to better meet the needs of patients,” stated Dr. Brian Wagner, President of SAMG and Anesthesia Medical Director at Mercy General Hospital. “When I need a solution to improve efficiencies within the care continuum, I have a family of physicians on my side. We’ve been looking for a collaborative partner and saw a natural fit with Vituity.” As Vituity’s newest partners, Dr. Wagner and his colleagues join a robust practice focused on the development of new programs and best practices that will further enhance patient care while reducing costs.

"Mercy General Hospital has greatly benefited from its relationship with the physicians of SAMG for many years," said Edmundo Castañeda, President of Mercy General Hospital. “When we heard that they joined CEP’s national network, we were very supportive because Vituity has been a great partner of ours in emergency medicine, and we expect to see more innovation in anesthesia medicine and care integration through this new partnership."
